Alexander McLeod Primary School

School Development Plan

The School Development Plan (SDP) is our strategic roadmap for improvement over a two-year period. It brings together, in a clear and accessible way, the school’s priorities, the actions we will take to raise standards, the resources we will dedicate, and the outcomes and targets we aim to achieve.

At Alexander McLeod, we believe the best plans are created collaboratively. Our Senior Leaders, Governors, teachers, and pupils all contribute to identifying the key priorities for the years ahead. This process enables us to focus on areas for further development while also celebrating and building on the many strengths already within our school. By involving all stakeholders, the SDP becomes a shared vision — a collective set of goals that everyone in our community works towards.

We have chosen to adopt a two-year plan so that each priority has sufficient time to be embedded into practice and to deliver meaningful impact. School improvement is not about quick fixes; it is about creating sustainable changes that make a real difference for our pupils. A longer plan allows us to refine strategies, monitor progress carefully, and ensure that developments are fully embedded before moving on.

The School Development Plan is also a living document. It is flexible and adapts in response to the evolving needs of our pupils, staff, and community. Senior Leaders review the plan regularly, ensuring that progress is monitored, actions remain relevant, and staff are kept informed of updates and outstanding priorities. In this way, the SDP provides both direction and accountability, guiding us as we continue to move our school forward.
