Year Group:  1

Term: Spring 1

We have a very exciting half term ahead where we will be learning all about the Great Fire of London!
In English, we will be looking at traditional tales and writing our own adaptation of The Three Little Pigs. We will then be learning about recounts and will create our own newspaper report of the Great Fire of London. Finally we will be focusing on reciting traditional rhymes, ensuring that we speak clearly and loud enough to be heard by others.

In Maths, we will work on securing our knowledge of addition and subtraction using a hundred square. We will then recap our place value knowledge and try to secure our understanding of tens and ones for any number up to 100. We will also be beginning to develop our understanding of length, weight, height and capacity for the rest of the half term.

In Topic, we will be focusing on the Great Fire of London. We will be exploring this fascinating event and the effect it had on London. In Science we will be investigating the properties of different materials and will be conducting a series of simple tests.  In Art/DT we will be recreating Tudor style houses – please send your child to school with an empty cereal box by Friday 12th January 2018.

In Computing, we will be looking at our coding and programming skills. We will be practising writing our own code and then programming our Bee-Bots to perform it.

In PSHE, we will be looking at keeping safe with a focus on medicine and why we use medicine.

In RE we will be learning about the Islamic faith and why the Prophet Mohammed and the Qur’an are important to Muslims.
